Punjab Announces Rewards for Teachers with Outstanding 9th Class Results
The Punjab School Education Department has introduced a new performance-based system for teachers and schools based on 9th Class Board examination results. The new directive covers educational institutions across all 36 districts of Punjab.
The policy focuses on both appreciation and accountability. Teachers whose students perform well will be recognized, while schools showing very low pass rates may face departmental action.
Teachers to Receive Badges for 80%+ Results
Under the new policy, teachers whose students achieve more than 80 percent marks in the 9th Class annual examinations will receive special badges and certificates of appreciation.
The move is aimed at encouraging teachers to improve classroom teaching and help students achieve stronger academic results.
The department has linked recognition directly with student performance. This means teachers can receive formal appreciation when their students demonstrate a high level of achievement in board examinations.
Appreciation for Results Between 60% and 79%
The reward system also includes students and school leadership.
According to the directive, head teachers, teachers and students will receive appreciation certificates where results fall within the 60 to 79 percent range.
This provides schools with another performance target and encourages teachers and students to work together for better examination outcomes.
Punjab 9th Class Result Performance System
| 9th Class Result Performance | Action |
|---|---|
| More than 80% marks | Teachers receive special badges and appreciation certificates |
| 60%–79% results | Head teachers, teachers and students receive appreciation certificates |
| Below 20% pass rate | Disciplinary action may be initiated |
Strict Action for Schools With Very Low Pass Rates
The directive is not limited to rewards. It also introduces accountability for schools where student performance remains extremely poor.
The department has directed that formal disciplinary action be taken against head teachers and subject teachers when the pass rate falls below 20 percent.
Such proceedings will be carried out under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability Act, 2006 (PEEDA).
The purpose of this provision is to make school leadership and subject teachers more accountable for consistently weak academic performance.
Cases of BS-17 Teachers to Be Referred
The notification also addresses cases involving BS-17 head teachers and teachers.
Where applicable, their cases will be referred to the relevant department for further action. This indicates that the performance policy will apply across different levels of school management and teaching staff.
District Education Authorities Asked to Report Action
The new instructions have been sent to the Chief Executive Officers of District Education Authorities across Punjab.
Officials have been directed to take the required steps and submit a departmental action report to the Director of Public Instruction within 15 days.
The reporting requirement is intended to ensure that the directive is implemented at the district level rather than remaining only on paper.
What This Means for Punjab Schools
The new approach gives schools a clear message: strong academic performance will be recognized, while extremely poor results can lead to accountability.
For teachers, the policy creates an incentive to focus more closely on student learning and board examination preparation. For students, the certificates and recognition may provide additional motivation to improve their performance in the 9th Class examinations.
Overall, Punjab’s latest directive combines rewards, recognition and disciplinary measures to improve academic outcomes across government schools in the province.
